Beyoncé donates $1 million to support victims of Colombia earthquake

Global music icon Beyoncé has pledged a $1 million donation to support the humanitarian emergency caused by the earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10. Her company, Parkwood Entertainment, announced the contribution, which will bolster immediate assistance in the hardest-hit areas.

The funds are prioritized for ensuring food and housing supplies for families who lost their homes or struggle to access essential goods following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake. The tremor, centered near San José del Palmar in Chocó, caused significant damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure, complicating the delivery of aid to affected communities.

Beyoncé's aid will be channeled through organizations operating on the ground, with Food For The Poor and World Central Kitchen among those involved. This initiative extends a growing chain of solidarity from the music industry, with artists like Karol G and Shakira also contributing significantly to relief and reconstruction efforts.

Karol G's Con Cora Foundation previously donated $1.2 million, raised during a benefit concert in Bogotá that featured numerous artists. Shakira, in partnership with Global Citizen and others, has committed $1.25 million to repair earthquake-damaged schools in Chocó through her Pies Descalzos Foundation. Other initiatives, like Marea Viva por el Chocó del Mañana, have mobilized various personalities from music and sports to support the region's recovery.
