Bezzecchi surprises Marquez brothers to take pole position in Aragon

Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi delivered a significant surprise in qualifying for the Aragon MotoGP Grand Prix, securing pole position at the Motorland circuit. Bezzecchi not only claimed the top spot but also shattered the track record, a feat he had already improved upon in Friday's practice sessions.

He finished ahead of Spanish brothers Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez, both riding Ducatis. Bezzecchi's fastest lap was 89 thousandths of a second quicker than Marc Marquez and 299 thousandths faster than Alex Marquez. "It was a great qualifying session, and I am very happy because I feel really good on the bike," Bezzecchi stated. "But we have to see how the race unfolds; the Marquez brothers have a good rhythm, and we will also have to take care of tire wear."

This pole position marks Bezzecchi's twelfth in his career and comes on the home turf of Marc Marquez, the reigning world champion and seven-time Aragon Grand Prix winner. Marquez was unable to secure his eighth pole at Motorland. The battle between Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez promises excitement for both Saturday's sprint race and Sunday's main event. However, neither rider can afford mistakes as their primary goal this weekend is to close the gap to championship leader Jorge Martin, who will start from fifth place.
