Biathlete Christiansen calls World Cup trip his 'most expensive holiday ever'

Biathlete Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen celebrated a victory in the supersprint race in Sandnes, capping off an unconventional and costly off-season. Christiansen, 34, secured the win on Friday, but his preparation for the upcoming season deviated significantly from the norm. He described his recent break as "the most expensive holiday ever" but also unequivocally "the holiday of a lifetime." This past season saw Christiansen earn two Olympic silver medals in the sprint and relay events. Following the Olympics, he engaged in a unique training regimen that included participating in the reality TV show "71 grader nord" and traveling to the USA to support Norway in the World Cup. Despite the unusual activities, Christiansen felt his form was solid. He admitted to being concerned about the large portion sizes in the U.S. but managed to maintain his fitness, partly by relying on a nearby Whole Foods market for quality produce. The trip, however, came with a hefty price tag, particularly for accommodation. "Yes, it was expensive," he told VG, adding that only having children or getting married could top the cost. Despite the financial strain, the experience fueled his motivation. Witnessing Norwegian sporting achievements from the sidelines gave him a renewed appreciation for athletic endeavors, both as a participant and a spectator. He emphasized that he will cherish his remaining years in the sport more than ever.
