Biathlon: Kaisa Mäkäräinen becomes coach for biathletes

Kaisa Mäkäräinen, a celebrated former Finnish biathlete and recent Yle commentator, is embarking on a new career chapter as a coach. The 43-year-old has been selected as the second coach for the Finnish Biathlon Federation's U21 national team. Ilkka Jarva will serve as the head coach for the group. The establishment of this U21 team comes in response to the International Biathlon Union's decision to eliminate the under-19 category from the Junior World Championships. Mäkäräinen concluded her illustrious career in March 2020, leaving behind a legacy that includes a World Championship gold medal from 2011, several other World Championship medals, and the distinction of being the first Finn to win the Biathlon World Cup overall title in the 2010-2011 season. The national team's coaching staff will also include head coach Erik Torneus-Kulstad, lead coach Aku Moilanen, and coach Ahti Toivanen.
