Bina Marga Explains Why Damaged Tendean Pedestrian Bridge Cannot Be Repaired

The pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, South Jakarta, which was struck by a truck carrying heavy equipment early on July 14, 2026, has been completely dismantled. The Bina Marga agency confirmed that the damage was so severe that repairs were not feasible, necessitating its removal.

Observations at the site on July 15, 2026, showed that the dismantling process was finished, and traffic flow in both directions along Jalan Kapten Tendean had returned to normal. No debris remained visible on the road. The collision caused fatal structural damage to the JPO, rendering it unsafe for public use and posing a potential hazard to road users and traffic.

Siti Dinarwenny, Head of the Data and Information Center at the DKI Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, stated that the decision to dismantle rather than repair was based on technical assessments. The agency deemed the bridge's structure to be severely damaged and no longer operational. This assessment highlighted the significant risk the damaged structure posed to public safety and traffic flow in the area.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14, caused considerable traffic jams, particularly during the morning commute. Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, instructed the Department of Transportation and other relevant agencies to address the congestion. The truck driver, identified as Jony Anri Siahaan, has been taken in for questioning by the police as investigations into the cause of the incident and potential negligence continue.
