Bishkek Mayor Pledges to Expedite Compensation for Demolished Properties Amid Overpass Construction

The construction of a new transport interchange, including an overpass, at the intersection of Molodaya Gvardiya Boulevard and Lev Tolstoy Street in Bishkek is a necessary step for the city's development. However, the process of compensating residents whose properties are being demolished has become a point of contention.

During a meeting with residents of the Leninsky district, Mayor Aybek Dzhunushaliev addressed concerns about compensation. While acknowledging the residents' support for the project, a woman voiced her distress over the delays, stating she had been unable to work since April and was running out of funds to support her five children. She claimed that city officials were ignoring their private property assessments.

He also clarified that property valuations exclude the prospect of demolition or road construction, focusing instead on market price. The mayor stressed that the interchange is a public necessity, and while acknowledging the property rights of the residents, the city must prioritize the greater public good.
