Bishkek's week ahead: Exhibitions, new films, and a concert

Bishkek's cultural calendar is bustling this week with a variety of events catering to diverse tastes. From August 11-14, the Gapar Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts is showcasing its permanent collections of painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative arts, open daily except Mondays.

Running from August 6-22, the museum also presents "The Village," an exhibition featuring artists, educators, and rural residents from China. This exhibit delves into the modern village, exploring its cultural memory, daily life, traditions, and natural landscapes. Additionally, from August 7-23, "Memory Embodied in Art" focuses on the life and work of Kyrgyz artist Abdyzhapar Omurchiev, whose pieces are considered both artistic creations and historical documents.

Music lovers can enjoy a performance by the "Arirang" municipal arts ensemble on August 11 at "Yntymak-2" Park. The concert promises a vibrant program of traditional Korean music, instrumental virtuosity, and folk songs, with a special appearance by the musical project Qaibar. The event begins at 7:00 PM.

Film enthusiasts have a packed schedule with several premieres on August 13. The lineup includes the comedy "Feelings," the horror film "Demons of Black Mountain," the thriller "In the Grip of Fear," the animated adventure "Moana," and the romance "Just One Night." These films span genres from comedy and horror to adventure and drama, offering something for every moviegoer.
