Bishkek Shatters Temperature Records for Third Straight Day Amid Heatwave

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, is enduring an unprecedented heatwave, with July 19, 2026, marking the third consecutive day that the capital city has broken its daily temperature record. The mercury climbed to a scorching +43.5 degrees Celsius, a staggering 10.1 degrees above the seasonal norm, according to data from the "Weather and Climate" website.

This latest record follows two previous days of extreme heat. On July 17, the maximum temperature reached +41.6 degrees Celsius, 7.7 degrees above normal, and on July 18, it hit +43.2 degrees Celsius, 9.6 degrees above normal. The entire month of July has been exceptionally hot, with the average monthly temperature so far exceeding the norm for July 2019, which was previously the hottest July on record.

Relief may be on the horizon, however. The Kyrgyz Hydrometeorological Service has predicted a change in weather patterns, forecasting short-term rains and a decrease in air temperature beginning July 21. This cooling trend offers a hopeful respite from the persistent and dangerous heat.
