Bishkek streets renamed to eliminate duplication after reform

Bishkek is undergoing a significant renaming of its streets and avenues as part of an ongoing administrative-territorial reform. The technical phase of consolidating streets under unified names is nearing completion, aimed at eliminating duplication and streamlining addresses within the capital city.

The decision to rename these thoroughfares was officially adopted by the Bishkek City Council on May 31, 2026. This move is intended to simplify the city's address system following the reform, ensuring that each street has a unique designation.

The renaming process involves merging several existing streets and avenues into larger, unified ones. For example, Mikhail Frunze Street (Novopavlovka), Deng Xiaoping, Chui, and Shabdan Baatyr avenues are now consolidated under Chui Avenue. Similarly, April 7 and Kurmanjan Datka streets are now simply Kurmanjan Datka Street.

The State Agency for Land Resources, Cadastre, Geodesy, and Cartography's Bishkek branch is currently working to update address numbers to align with the newly approved street names. This comprehensive effort aims to create a more organized and easily navigable urban landscape for residents and visitors alike.
