American sports publication Bleacher Report has released its "worst XI" lineup from the recent World Cup, identifying players who failed to live up to expectations. The list includes prominent figures whose teams also fell short of their potential.

Among the most high-profile inclusions is Cristiano Ronaldo, named in the attacking trio. Portugal, considered a title contender, was eliminated in the round of 16 by Spain. Bleacher Report suggests the Portuguese team struggled to integrate Ronaldo effectively, marking a likely end to his World Cup career.

Coach Roberto Martinez also features in the list of disappointments. Bleacher Report criticizes his management of a highly talented Portuguese squad, noting his departure from the coaching position after their exit. The defensive line includes Reece James, Jonathan Tah, Gabriel Magalhães, and Lucas Digne. Gabriel, in particular, was expected to lead Brazil's defense, but the team was eliminated by Norway.
