Blind father hears son's football game thanks to sports commentator's special broadcast

Veteran sports commentator Julius Sorjonen, known for broadcasting major events like the Champions League and NHL, recently took on a unique assignment: commentating a junior football match for a single listener. The special audience was Jarno Ala-Nissilä, a father of three who lost his sight in 2024.

Sorjonen stood near the corner flag at the Käpylä Sports Park, describing the game for Ala-Nissilä's nine-year-old son, Eino, who was playing for the Helsinki club Gnistan. This act of kindness transformed a daily occurrence into a dream come true for Ala-Nissilä, who had been unable to watch his sons' games since losing his vision.

Ala-Nissilä shared a video of the commentary on Instagram, where it quickly became a viral sensation, garnering over 380,000 views and nearly 20,000 likes within a week. The idea for the special commentary originated with Gnistan, but Ala-Nissilä actively pursued it, even inviting Sorjonen after meeting him at a mutual friend's naming ceremony.
