Blueberries spill onto Mission roadway, for the second time in a month

RCMP officers in Mission, British Columbia, found themselves dealing with a sticky situation for the second time in July after a truck spilled a load of blueberries onto a roadway. The incident occurred on July 16, when crates of the fruit fell onto the Horne Street overpass.

Witnesses reported seeing a motorcycle "slip-sliding" through the mess, while other vehicles encountered a "very juicy incident indeed." An officer spoke with the truck driver, who was attempting to clean up the spilled berries before they turned the road into a "fruit-fly-freeway."

The driver blamed other farm workers for improperly loading the crates, but the attending officer reminded him of his ultimate responsibility as the driver. Consequently, the driver received a ticket for operating with insecure cargo under the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the road was cleaned up following the incident. This event followed a similar spill of blueberries onto Lougheed Highway on July 9, occurring during the peak of the blueberry harvesting season.
