BMKG: Jakarta clear and cloudy all week, beware of El Niño threat in 2026

Jakarta residents can expect a pleasant Sunday with clear and cloudy skies across all administrative areas, including the Thousand Islands. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts no rainfall for the capital city throughout the day.

Morning conditions are predicted to be clear and cloudy, with this pattern continuing into the afternoon for West, Central, and South Jakarta. North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands may experience slightly cloudier conditions during the day. By evening, most of the city is expected to return to clear and cloudy skies, while the Thousand Islands remain cloudy. The temperature in Jakarta will hover between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius, and the public is advised to maintain hydration due to the warm weather.

Beyond the daily forecast, BMKG has issued a significant early warning regarding the El Niño phenomenon in 2026. This global climate event is anticipated to be very strong and could trigger drier and extended dry seasons across much of Indonesia.

The heightened El Niño conditions pose a substantial risk of drought, impacting critical sectors such as agriculture, water resources, and forestry.
