BMW iX3 Earns Top 5-Star Safety Rating from Euro NCAP

The BMW iX3 has achieved the highest possible five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, Europe's leading vehicle safety assessment organization. This recognition comes under the agency's significantly updated evaluation framework, which now emphasizes real-world accident response over simulated scenarios.

The iX3 excelled in all four newly implemented assessment categories: safety assist, occupant protection, child safety, and post-crash rescue. Its driver assistance systems were particularly noted for precision, with the speed limit recognition system accurately identifying 97% of the tested route. The integration of physical controls, the front display, and the AI assistant also contributed to its high score by minimizing operational complexities.

In crash avoidance tests, the automatic emergency braking and lane departure functions proved effective. A standout feature highlighted was the exit warning system, which alerts occupants to approaching motorcycles or bicycles when opening doors, enhancing safety for vulnerable road users. The vehicle's structural integrity was also confirmed in collision tests, where it secured maximum points for rear-seat child protection in a frontal offset crash and top scores in side-impact tests. The center airbag, positioned between the front seats, effectively prevented secondary collisions between the driver and passenger during side impacts.

Post-crash safety measures also received high marks. The iX3's flush door handles remained functional even after severe impact, allowing for external door opening. Crucially, a mechanical dual safety mechanism ensures occupants can exit the vehicle independently or be rescued by external teams, even if the car's battery and electrical systems are completely immobilized. This comprehensive approach to safety underscores the iX3's robust design.
