BN to Field More New Faces in Johor Election, Says Chairman

Barisan Nasional (BN) is preparing to introduce a greater number of new candidates in the upcoming Johor state election, aiming to inject fresh leadership into the state's political landscape. Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the chairman of BN and Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed that the selection process for candidates across all 56 State Legislative Assembly seats is in its final stages. He announced that the definitive list of BN candidates for the Johor election will be unveiled one week prior to the official nomination day. "We will announce the names of the candidates a week before the nomination day," Hamidi stated. He further explained that the party is committed to ensuring a blend of existing leaders and emerging talent, designed to bolster the party's campaign efforts and enhance voter trust in BN. The selection criteria, he noted, will adhere to the established formula of choosing candidates who are 'winnable,' 'likeable,' and 'acceptable' to the electorate. BN is also mobilizing party machinery from other states to support the campaign in Johor. The announcement follows the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the 16th state election. BN previously formed the state government in the March 2022 Johor election, securing 40 out of 56 seats.
