BN, UMNO will not compromise on TH mismanagement - Ahmad Zahid

Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO will take a firm stance against any individuals found to have engaged in misconduct or breaches of trust concerning the management of Tabung Haji (TH), stated BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He emphasized that those responsible for wrongdoing must face the repercussions of their actions.

The stand of BN and UMNO is, if indeed individuals or a group have committed embezzlement, breach of trust, or governance work that is not in line with the governance of a government organization, let alone a statutory body, then the consequences will be faced by them.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, indicated that follow-up actions based on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report will be determined after it is presented and debated in the Dewan Rakyat. The presentation is slated for August 11.

"The stand of BN and UMNO is, if indeed individuals or a group have committed embezzlement, breach of trust, or governance work that is not in line with the governance of a government organization, let alone a statutory body, then the consequences will be faced by them," he said. He added that he does not believe in compromising if such negative elements are present.

I do not think we should compromise if such negative elements are done by them.

His remarks come in response to a suggestion by former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who advised the government against taking action against those implicated in the RCI report. Ahmad Zahid clarified that if the RCI report contains only recommendations without proof of misconduct, further scrutiny will be necessary before any decisions are made. However, if misconduct is evident, action will follow.

But if the opposite happens, then of course the report by the Royal Commission of Inquiry only presents recommendations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on July 31 that a special parliamentary session would be held on August 11 to debate the RCI findings on Tabung Haji. This session follows the Cabinet's decision to declassify the report, enabling enforcement agencies to conduct further investigations based on its findings. The RCI report reportedly includes recommendations for forensic audits into past investment decisions that allegedly contributed to a significant decline in Tabung Haji's asset value.

What further action will be taken, we will debate and discuss on August 11 in the Dewan Rakyat later.
