BNP leader, passerby shot in Dhaka's Pallabi area

A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a female passerby were injured in a shooting incident in Dhaka's Pallabi area. Assailants opened fire from a moving car, striking Alamgir Hossain, 45, a fish trader and member of the BNP's Nawabganj upazila unit, and Josna, 50.

Hossain sustained severe bullet injuries to his head, abdomen, and hip and is in critical condition at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Josna suffered a bullet injury to her leg and was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. in Lane 2 of Millat Camp in Mirpur-11.

Confirming the incident, Md Mostak Sarkar, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mirpur Division, said the shooting took place around 5:45pm in Lane 2 of Millat Camp in Mirpur-11, leaving two people injured.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mirpur Division, Md Mostak Sarkar, stated that investigators have identified the alleged shooters as Rubel, also known as "Langra Rubel," and his associate Pappa, both reportedly drug peddlers. Authorities are actively pursuing their arrest.

According to Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasan Bashir, the attackers arrived in a car, fired three rounds at Hossain, and then fled. Hossain's uncle, Md Ashik, told The Daily Star that four men were in the vehicle and targeted his nephew. The family suspects the attack may be linked to political rivalry.
