Bobby Nasution speaks out on 'Ondim, Upfront Costs' joke to Langkat Regent

A video has gone viral showing North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution joking about the nickname 'Ondim' for Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, shortly before Afandin was arrested in an anti-corruption sting operation. The joke, which interprets 'Ondim' as 'Ongkos Di Muka' (Upfront Costs), was made during the inauguration of PAN North Sumatra officials on June 14.

Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim, was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on July 2 in connection with alleged bribery totaling Rp800 million. The funds were reportedly received from a private party and his campaign team for the 2024 regional elections. The KPK operation apprehended seven individuals, including Afandin, his aide, driver, and several others linked to the alleged corruption in the Langkat Education and Public Housing and Settlement agencies.

When asked about the circulating video, Governor Nasution responded casually, redirecting the question to the Deputy Regent of Langkat, Tiorita Br Surbakti, who has been appointed as the acting Regent. "Just ask Mrs. Teo (Tiorita Br Surbakti) about her commitment," Nasution stated at the North Sumatra Provincial Government Office in Medan on Monday (July 6). However, Tiorita declined to answer questions on the matter at that time.

The incident highlights a stark contrast between Nasution's lighthearted jest and the serious corruption charges faced by Afandin. The timing of the viral video, following Afandin's arrest and detention in Jakarta, has drawn significant attention. Afandin was reportedly arrested for allegedly accepting bribes related to projects in the Langkat Regency's Education and Public Housing and Settlement departments. The money was allegedly received from a private individual and his campaign team for the 2024 regional elections.
