Boer Zoekt Bier festival in Belgium draws 18,000 visitors after expanding grounds

The seventh edition of the "Boer Zoekt Bier" (Farmer Seeks Beer) festival in Diepenbeek, Belgium, drew a record 18,000 visitors this past weekend. The festival, which began as a hobby project for Limburg friends, significantly expanded its grounds this year, doubling its capacity and extending to two days. Despite the growth, organizers reported no major incidents, fostering confidence for future events. Under sunny skies, attendees enjoyed what the organization calls "marginal singalongs," a departure from typical techno or pop music. "The people are happy, a lot of beer is being drunk, and the sun is out," said spokesperson Klaasjan Creemers, highlighting the event's growing success. Festivalgoers noted the increased scale, with some attending since 2018 expressing surprise at this year's size. The unique theme, featuring a "farmer" dress code with checkered shirts and farmer hats, contributes to the festival's charm. Even Mayor Rik Kriekels embraced the theme, riding his tractor across the festival grounds. While the lineup included 42 acts, including Dutch singer Frans Bauer and DJ duo Flo Windey and Laurens Luyten, many attendees focused more on the atmosphere and dancing than specific artists. The festival is seen as a significant event for the Limburg region, with attendees emphasizing the communal and festive spirit.
