Boko Haram kills police officer, seven civilians in Adamawa attack

A violent attack by suspected Boko Haram militants in Adamawa State has resulted in the deaths of eight people, including a police inspector and seven civilians.

The attackers came on the night of Monday and launched a bloody attack on two houses, burnt the houses and killed one police officer and seven civilians during the attack.

The assault occurred on Monday night in the Gaya community, located in the Hong Local Government Area. According to local authorities, the attackers targeted two houses, setting them ablaze before fleeing. The chairman of the Hong Local Government Area, Dr. Aliyu Saad, confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers launched a "bloody attack" on the residences.

Security agencies, comprising military personnel, police, hunters, and other security operatives, have been mobilized and are actively pursuing the assailants. The state police command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that an initial report indicated five deaths, including four civilians and the police inspector, with further updates being awaited.

The report we received from the area on Monday night was that five dead bodies were recovered, four civilians and an inspector of police, after the attackers left.

This incident marks the eighth time the Hong Local Government Area has been subjected to insurgent attacks this year. The region has been a target for militants, and a proposed military barracks in Garaha, strategically located near a known Boko Haram route into the Sambisa Forest, has yet to be established. Hong is also the hometown of prominent political figures, including former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal and Mr. Boss Mustapha.
