Troops rescue 14 kidnapped victims in Katsina terrorist attack

Nigerian troops have successfully rescued 14 kidnapped individuals following a swift response to a terrorist attack in Sabuwa Local Government Area, Katsina State. The operation, conducted by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, thwarted a terrorist group that had abducted victims from Dandume, Bakori, and Funtua areas.

On 18 August 2026, troops of Sector 2 OPFY responded to credible information on the movement of terrorists with kidnapped victims around Madaci Forest in Sabuwa LGA. The troops swiftly mobilized to the area and made contact with the terrorists, engaging them and compelling them to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer, troops received credible information about terrorists moving with kidnapped victims near Madaci Forest. Upon mobilization, they engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee. The rescued group comprised 6 males and 8 females.

Following exploitation of the area, troops successfully rescued 14 victims comprising 6 males and 8 females.

The successful operation underscores the determination of Operation Fansan Yamma troops to protect lives and prevent criminal activities. Preliminary information revealed that the victims had been abducted from different locations within Dandume, Bakori and Funtua general areas of Katsina State.
