Bolivia achieves first win in U16 South American Tennis Championship

The Bolivian men's U16 tennis team achieved its first win at the South American Championship in Bogotá, Colombia, by defeating Chile 2-1. This victory marks a significant moment for the team in the ongoing tournament.

The young squad, composed of Andree Montellano, Omar Vargas, and Franco Arancibia, with Gary Salvatierra as captain, is competing in Group B alongside Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, and Chile. Their performance is crucial as the tournament offers qualification spots for the World Championship.

In the match against Chile, Franco Arancibia secured a win in the first singles match with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Although Montellano lost his singles match, Arancibia and Montellano teamed up to win the decisive doubles match, clinching the overall victory for Bolivia.

Meanwhile, the Bolivian women's team narrowly missed an upset against Brazil. Emilia Antelo lost her singles match, but María Laura Sejas managed a surprising win against Brazil's top player. However, the doubles pair of Antelo and Sejas ultimately fell to the Brazilian duo, resulting in a loss for the Bolivian women's team.

The tournament employs a round-robin format, where each nation faces others in a best-of-three matches format (two singles and one doubles). The teams are competing fiercely for final rankings and the coveted World Championship berths.
