Bolivian Bank BISA to Open Office in Panama

Banco BISA, headquartered in Bolivia, is set to establish a presence in Panama after securing an international license to operate in the country. The announcement was made by the Superintendency of Banks of Panama (SBP) on Friday.

The Bolivian bank's entry into Panama's International Banking Center (CBI) marks a significant expansion. The CBI, which currently comprises 62 institutions, will now include Banco BISA, enabling it to conduct transactions that are finalized, consumed, or take effect abroad, along with other authorized activities.

Banco BISA is part of the Grupo Financiero BISA, S.A., a financial group with over six decades of experience that has become a leading financial organization in Bolivia. The group offers a comprehensive range of products and services, according to the SBP's statement.

The SBP highlighted that the incorporation of Banco BISA reinforces Panama's standing as an attractive platform for international banking services. This expansion is seen as a key step in strengthening the CBI by increasing the presence of reputable financial institutions.

Panama's International Banking Center has shown favorable performance, characterized by ample liquidity, robust solvency, positive profitability, and orderly balance sheet expansion as of May 2026. This stability is occurring within a broader economic context of positive growth, with the Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) nearing 5% and contained inflation, all contributing to a stable financial system.
