Bonnie Tyler, 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' singer, dies at 75

Bonnie Tyler, the iconic voice behind 1980s pop-rock anthems, has died at the age of 75. Her family and team confirmed her passing, sharing that she died unexpectedly in a hospital in Portugal following an illness.

Bonnie's family and her team are devastated to announce that Bonnie passed away unexpectedly last night at the hospital in Portugal following a short illness for which she was receiving treatment.

Just months prior, the Welsh singer, born Gaynor Hopkins, had undergone emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal. She was placed in a medically induced coma, and while she had reportedly woken up, her condition remained critical in intensive care.

Tyler rose to global fame with the 1983 Jim Steinman-penned hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Steinman also penned her other major hit, "Holding Out for a Hero," featured in the film "Footloose" and later in "Shrek 2." Her career spanned decades, including a Grammy nomination and representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013. She was recognized with an MBE in 2023 for her contributions to music.
