Border residents will be allowed to cross the Integration Bridge in private vehicles

Residents of four cities on the Paraguay-Brazil border will gain a new way to cross the Integration Bridge in private vehicles from September 14, 2026.

The mixed commission overseeing the bridge agreed to allow private-car crossings between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. The measure applies exclusively to residents of Ciudad del Este, Presidente Franco and Hernandarias in Paraguay’s Alto Paraná department, and Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil’s Paraná state.

Both the driver and every other occupant must hold a Border Transit Document, known by its Spanish acronym DTVF, and meet the requirements of the Mercosur agreement on linked border communities. In Paraguay, residents can apply through the Migration office on Rogelio Benítez Avenue. In Foz do Iguaçu, applications will be handled by the Federal Police office at Shopping Catuaí Palladium.

The commission also approved longer crossing hours for empty heavy trucks. They currently use the bridge from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.; from September 14, they will be allowed to cross from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The bridge will not handle general merchandise shipments under the new arrangement. Only subsistence goods covered by the existing agreement will be permitted. Medium-sized empty trucks will continue to operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., while loaded returns must use the Friendship Bridge. Urban international buses between Presidente Franco and Foz do Iguaçu may optionally use the Integration Bridge during the same hours with a DTVF. Other listed passenger services will continue under their existing bridge arrangements.
