Boseiwaqa chases own Kula dream, inspired by sister

At 14, Torika Boseiwaqa is preparing to represent Fiji for the first time on the international stage. The Year Nine student at Ba Sangam College has joined the Fiji Mini Kulas squad for the OFC U-16 Women's Championship in Solomon Islands.

Boseiwaqa comes from a family with strong football connections. Her older sister, Sereana Naweni, represents the senior Fiji Kulas and has already captained Fiji at the 2025 OFC U-19 Women's Championship. Naweni also scored for the senior team against Tonga at last year's OFC Women's Nations Cup.

“My elder sister has supported me a lot and always encourages me to work hard. I am very proud to follow in her footsteps and represent Fiji, just like she has done,” Boseiwaqa said. “She has inspired me, and I hope to make her and my family proud when I play for the Mini Kulas.”

Fiji will open its campaign against the Cook Islands on Sunday, then face New Zealand next Wednesday and tournament hosts Solomon Islands on September 12. The two finalists will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2027.
