Bosnia beats Qatar 3-1, awaits World Cup advancement decision

Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Qatar in their final Group B match of the 2026 World Cup, maintaining their chances of advancing to the knockout stage. The Bosnian team confirmed their favorite status, though they faced a determined Qatari side that fought until the end.

The scoring began in the 29th minute when Alajbegovic completed an impressive individual play. Bosnia extended their lead six minutes later through an own goal by Qatar's Al-Brake, following a pass from Dzeko. Qatar managed to narrow the deficit just before halftime, with Hasan Al-Haydos scoring in the 42nd minute to make it 2-1.

Bosnia held firm against Qatari pressure in the second half, and Mahmic sealed the win with a shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 80th minute. Despite the valuable three points, Bosnia's goal difference was not sufficient to secure second place, as they finished behind Canada. They now await the conclusion of the group stage to determine if their points total is enough to qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

In the other Group B match, Switzerland defeated Canada 2-1, finishing first in the group. Canada secured second place, also advancing to the next round.
