Bosnia wins 3-1 against Qatar, awaits World Cup knockout stage fate

Bosnia and Herzegovina kept their 2026 World Cup knockout stage hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over Qatar in their final Group B match. However, their progression is not yet guaranteed, as they must now await the results of other group games to see if they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

The match saw Bosnia confirm their favorite status, though Qatar put up a fight. The scoring opened in the 29th minute with a solo effort from Kerim Alajbegovic. Bosnia doubled their lead six minutes later when a Qatar player, Al-Brake, inadvertently scored an own goal from a pass by Edin Dzeko. Qatar managed to pull one back just before halftime through Hasan Al-Haydos in the 42nd minute.

Ermin Mahmic sealed the victory for Bosnia in the 80th minute with a shot from the penalty area. Despite Qatar's efforts in the second half, the score remained unchanged. The win was not enough for Bosnia to secure second place in the group due to goal difference compared to Canada, who lost to Switzerland. Bosnia now waits to see if their points tally will be sufficient for advancement.

In the other Group B match, Switzerland defeated Canada 2-1, finishing first in the group. Canada secured second place and also advanced to the next round.
