Boxer arrested in Greece over discovery of Scottish woman's body in suitcase

Athens – A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Greece in connection with the death of a Scottish woman whose body was found in a suitcase. Sharif Ahmadzai, who is from Afghanistan, is expected to appear in court in Athens on Wednesday.

The body of Elisabeth Jane Ross, 38, was discovered on July 18 in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens. She had been reported missing several days prior to the discovery.

Ahmadzai is a champion boxer who reportedly traveled to Greece as a refugee. According to reports, he lives in Athens with his American wife and child. He is understood to have left Afghanistan after being orphaned at the age of 15, following the deaths of his father, an Afghan army commander, and his mother and siblings in a suicide bombing in Kabul.

His journey to Greece reportedly involved passage through Iran and Turkey. He is said to have settled in a refugee camp on the island of Lesbos, where he met his wife and converted to Christianity. The couple later established the charity Love Every Nation Athens to assist other refugees. It is believed that Ahmadzai may have met Ross through this charity.
