Boxer Hannah Rapp, 26, Dies After Being Hit by Car in Texas; Driver Charged

Rising boxer Hannah Rapp, 26, died Saturday morning after a fatal encounter with a vehicle while cycling in Brazos County, Texas. The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. when a car struck Rapp, leaving her injured in the roadway. First responders provided medical care, but she later succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.

Investigators identified the driver as 31-year-old Charles Medina. According to police, Medina had initially passed Rapp and her boyfriend on FM 159. Rapp's boyfriend reportedly reacted by gesturing towards Medina's vehicle. Medina then allegedly stopped, reversed his car, and struck Rapp, knocking her into the road. Medina told police he believed the cyclists were trying to flag him down and claimed he did not see Rapp until the last moment before impact.

Medina was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He is currently held at the Brazos County Detention Center. The sheriff's office extended its condolences to Rapp's family and friends. The World Boxing Council (WBC) also paid tribute to Rapp, calling her a "rising star" and a "NABF champion and WBC world title challenger." WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman stated, "The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken. She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family."

Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck a bicyclist, leaving an adult female lying in the roadway. First responders arrived on scene and provided emergency medical care before the victim was transported to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, she later passed away at the hospital.
