Boy Charged with Murdering Mother, Attempting to Kill Sister in Perth

A 16-year-old boy faces charges of murder and attempted unlawful killing following a domestic incident in Perth's south-east. Police responded to a call early yesterday morning, discovering the body of a 35-year-old woman at a residence on Mills Street in Bentley. Approximately 600 meters away, on Albany Highway in Cannington, a 12-year-old girl was found injured.

Authorities arrested the boy at the family home. He has since been charged with murdering his mother and attempting to kill his sister. The injured girl, who is understood to have escaped the residence and alerted police after allegedly being stabbed by her brother, is in serious but stable condition at Perth Children's Hospital.

WA Police Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo stated that while the investigation is in its preliminary stages, police are treating the incident as a suspected family violence homicide. The homicide squad has taken carriage of the investigation. Police also indicated they would review any prior interactions the family may have had with law enforcement. The accused and the alleged victims cannot be identified for legal reasons.
