Brad Pitt ended seven years of sobriety, though his divorce was alcohol-related

Actor Brad Pitt, 62, has opened up about his struggles with alcohol and his journey to sobriety, revealing in a recent Esquire interview that he has resumed drinking in moderation after seven years of abstinence. The actor described a period where he felt immense pain and saw "no way out," linking these difficulties to "family matters" and the protracted divorce from actress Angelina Jolie.

Pitt's divorce from Jolie, finalized after a lengthy legal battle over custody and assets, was reportedly triggered by an incident on a private plane in 2016 involving alcohol, during which Jolie accused Pitt of assaulting her and their children. The couple's six children, who were between 8 and 15 years old at the time, have reportedly become estranged from Pitt, with some even abandoning the Pitt surname.

In a previous interview on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Pitt had candidly discussed his alcohol dependency and recovery, stating that the divorce had "forced him to his knees." He mentioned trying "everything and everyone" offered to him. In 2020, he credited his friend, actor Bradley Cooper, with helping him achieve sobriety.
