'Brave Bee IV' drone enters international market, Kratos X account praises 'high maneuverability, low cost'

Taiwan and the United States are jointly advancing the development and international marketing of the "Brave Bee IV" (勁蜂四型) attack drone, a project spearheaded by Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) in partnership with US firm Kratos Defense. While final flight tests and operational assessments are underway in Taiwan, Kratos has already launched a global marketing campaign for the drone on social media platform X.

This low-cost, jet-powered drone, described as transforming a "target drone into a killer," is being positioned as a significant entry into the international market, attracting considerable attention from European and American defense companies. The collaboration is based on a 2025 agreement, stemming from an innovative concept proposed by NCSIST President Lee Shih-chiang. It involves integrating Kratos's mature MQM-178 Firejet drone with NCSIST's guidance control systems and high-explosive warheads.

Kratos has been actively promoting the drone on X, highlighting its "highly mobile, low-cost drone system." The company emphasizes that the Brave Bee IV is a combat-ready system, having undergone system testing at Kratos's Oklahoma factory. The drone boasts impressive specifications, including a top speed of 0.8 Mach (approximately 980 km/h) and a maximum altitude of 35,000 feet, significantly reducing enemy air defense reaction times. The latest overseas exhibition version also features a "Pylon Rack" for weapons, enhancing its mission flexibility.

Although some experts note its standard 32kg warhead payload is lower than traditional cruise missiles, the drone's exceptional 1,000 km range and high cost-effectiveness make it a crucial asset in modern saturation attack tactics. Military sources suggest these low-cost, high-speed drones can effectively deplete enemy air defense missiles, clearing the path for Taiwan's cruise missiles and creating layered suppression firepower. Recent demonstrations have included photos of the drone penetrating 5cm of high-strength steel armor, showcasing its anti-armor capabilities.

The Brave Bee IV was prominently displayed at Kratos's booth during the 2026 XPONENTIAL Unmanned Systems Expo in Detroit, generating significant interest. The US firm's proactive online marketing strategy anticipates seamless integration with international orders once Taiwan's operational assessments are complete, marking a new chapter in US-Taiwanese defense industry cooperation and full-system exports.
