Brazil border police seize nearly 3,500 vials of smuggled tirzepatida and other drugs

Brazilian federal police intercepted a significant haul of smuggled injectable medications, predominantly tirzepatide-based weight-loss drugs, during a roadside inspection in Paraná state. The operation, conducted by the Receita Federal, uncovered 3,493 vials with a total value exceeding 320,000 reais (approximately $59,000 USD).

The discovery occurred on the BR-277 highway in São Miguel do Iguaçu when officers stopped a rental car. While the vehicle's occupants, a man, his wife, and their young child, stated they were returning to São Paulo after visiting relatives in Foz de Yguazú, a more thorough inspection revealed the drugs concealed within the car's doors.

Authorities found 2,707 vials of weight-loss medication and 786 vials of peptides and rejuvenating products. The couple offered minimal information regarding the cargo, claiming ignorance about its quantity, value, origin, or intended recipient. The vehicle and its contents were seized, and the case will be forwarded to the Federal Public Ministry for potential criminal proceedings, though no arrests were made at the scene.
