Brazil football legend Roberto Carlos reportedly converts to Islam

Brazilian football icon Roberto Carlos, widely regarded as one of the greatest left-backs in history, has reportedly embraced Islam in Brazil. The news emerged from Ali Şahin, a Member of Parliament from Turkey's ruling AK Party, who shared the information after meeting with representatives of the Brazilian Muslim community in Sao Paulo.

According to Şahin, Sheikh Jihad Hammadeh, Vice President and Religious Advisor of the National Association of Islamic Legal Experts (ANAJI), stated that Carlos had been in contact with him for some time and visited him approximately four weeks prior. During this visit, Sheikh Hammadeh claims Carlos recited the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, thereby converting to Islam.

Şahin shared these alleged details on social media following his meeting with Sheikh Hammadeh and other representatives from Brazilian Islamic organizations, including the President of the Islamic Welfare Youth League and the President of the Pari Mosque Foundation. He extended congratulations to Carlos and wished him peace, health, and well-being.

Roberto Carlos, 53, previously played for Real Madrid and later joined Turkish club Fenerbahçe in 2007. The reports of his conversion coincide with other unconfirmed stories about his marriage to Moroccan-born football agent Suhayla At Tohiri. As of now, Carlos himself has not publicly confirmed his conversion to Islam, leaving the reports based solely on the accounts provided by the Brazilian Islamic community representatives and the Turkish parliamentarian.
