Brazil Justice OKs Bolsonaro statement on seized gun

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has authorized former President Jair Bolsonaro to provide a statement to the Civil Police of the Federal District regarding the seizure of a nine-millimeter firearm. The weapon was found in possession of one of Bolsonaro's security guards during a police stop. An inquiry has been opened to investigate the matter. The police had initially requested to interrogate Bolsonaro via videoconference on Wednesday, but Moraes mandated an in-person deposition at Bolsonaro's residence on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Bolsonaro is currently serving a house arrest sentence at a home in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood of Brasília. Additionally, Moraes requested that Bolsonaro's defense team identify a health professional to accompany the former president during his sentence. The defense had proposed Eduardo Torres, Michelle Bolsonaro's brother, but Moraes rejected this, citing a lack of qualification for Torres to monitor Bolsonaro's health conditions, which include hiccups and other complications stemming from a 2018 stabbing incident.
