Brazil Police Seek to Question Bolsonaro Over Seized Pistol

Brazil's Federal District Civil Police have asked Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes for permission to question former President Jair Bolsonaro as part of an investigation into a seized pistol. The inquiry focuses on the circumstances surrounding the firearm's apprehension.

Authorities attempted to serve Bolsonaro, who is currently under house arrest, with a summons at his residence. However, his security team reportedly prevented the formal notification. The pistol, a 9mm Glock, was found with one of Bolsonaro's security guards during a police stop.

Bolsonaro's defense team informed Moraes that the former president had requested the pistol be repaired after noticing a malfunction. They stated Bolsonaro was unaware that a part had been removed by his security detail, rendering the weapon inoperable. The defense also suggested that Bolsonaro's use of psychiatric medication could potentially impact his cognitive abilities, which might explain his actions regarding the firearm.
