Brazil Police to Access Data in Probe of Film Tied to Bolsonaro

Brazil's Federal Police are set to access data seized by the Civil Police in an operation that targeted Karina Ferreira da Gama, a partner in Go UP Entertainment Ltd, the production company behind the film "Dark Horse." The film chronicles the story of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Minister Flávio Dino of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) greenlit the data sharing, which aims to bolster investigations into suspicions of public fund diversions, particularly parliamentary amendments, connected to the production company. The script for "Dark Horse" was written by federal deputy Mário Frias (PL-SP), who, in 2024, allocated R$ 2 million in amendments to the film's NGO. This development occurs amidst a period of negative news for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. Earlier, in May, Mário Frias's defense denied to Minister Flávio Dino any triangulation of amendment funds to finance the film's production, labeling the allegations as speculative and legally insufficient. The Civil Police operation in early June investigated a suspected fraud in a São Paulo City Hall tender worth R$ 108 million, awarded to the Instituto Conhecer Brasil (ICB), also owned by Karina Ferreira da Gama. The investigation also sought access to financial movement analyses from the Council for Financial Activities Control (Coaf) concerning ICB, Go Up, and Karina. One hypothesis is that some funds may have flowed to Go Up during the film's production. The film's budget was reportedly over 90% financed by banker Daniel Vorcaro, whose secret financing arrangements with Flávio Bolsonaro were reportedly uncovered by the Federal Police through messages on Vorcaro's phone, even after his arrest for billions in fraud in November 2025.
