Brazilian footballer falls in tunnel after scoring disallowed goal

Brazilian footballer Jacy Maranhão experienced a moment of elation followed by a bizarre mishap during a match between his club, Corbita, and Chapecoense. In the first half, Maranhão scored what he believed was his team's second goal, celebrating with his supporters. However, the joy was short-lived as the referee, prompted by a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, disallowed the goal for offside.

As Maranhão regained his composure after the disallowed goal, he stumbled and fell into a dark tunnel near the pitch. This peculiar incident echoed a similar event that occurred nearly a decade earlier at the same stadium, the Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira. Cameroonian forward Diederrick Joel Tagueu-Tadjo had also run to the same end of the pitch, jumped over advertising hoardings, and fallen into the same tunnel.

Adding a striking layer of coincidence, Brazilian journalist Leonardo Mendes Jr. pointed out a remarkable detail: the security guard who attempted to prevent Tagueu-Tadjo from jumping into the tunnel was the same guard present during Maranhão's fall. While Maranhão's goal was disallowed, Tagueu-Tadjo's goal in his incident was permitted, and he completed the match against São Paulo. Maranhão, however, was substituted early in the second half due to an injury sustained during the fall.
