Breaking: Bondi terror attack hero Ahmed Al Ahmed's charges dropped

Charges have been dropped against Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man widely praised as a hero for his actions during the Bondi terror attack. Police had accused him of assaulting and intimidating his father.

Al Ahmed had pleaded not guilty in June to charges stemming from an incident alleged to have occurred in March at a home in Sydney's southwest. On Wednesday, in Bankstown Local Court, the charges were withdrawn following an agreement for Al Ahmed to comply with a 12-month apprehended violence order (AVO).

His defense lawyer, Mohamed Sakr, told the court that the AVO was accepted without any admissions of guilt. A police prosecutor confirmed the development, stating it followed the complainant's retracted statement. The judge outlined the AVO's conditions to Al Ahmed, emphasizing it is a court order governing his behavior.

During the Bondi shooting, Al Ahmed was shot multiple times as he attempted to wrestle a rifle from one of the gunmen. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hailed him as a hero, and a fundraiser in his support garnered $2.6 million. Outside court, Al Ahmed expressed his satisfaction, stating, "The law has been served." His lawyer added, "His innocence is continued, his dignity is preserved and we look forward to what Mr Al Ahmed has next."
