BREAKING: Kwara villagers regain freedom six months after abduction

Villagers abducted during a brutal terrorist attack on Woro community in Kwara State have regained their freedom after six months in captivity. The Kwara State government confirmed the release on Wednesday via a statement on its official Facebook page, extending gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security forces, and all individuals involved in the rescue operation.

While the government statement celebrated the "huge feat," it did not disclose the exact number of victims released, the conditions under which they were freed, or the specific circumstances of their liberation. The statement simply read, "Woro kidnap victims regain freedom. Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!."

Premium Times had previously reported that the February attack by members of a Boko Haram franchise led by Sadiku saw over 100 people, including women and children, abducted. The terrorists also killed numerous residents and set homes ablaze. Local sources, including the village head Salihu Umar, stated that approximately 176 people were taken, with Mr. Umar's wives and daughters among them. The incident sparked national outrage, prompting President Tinubu to order intensified military operations in the region to rescue the captives and restore order.
