BREAKING: WAEC releases 2026 WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates. The examination body shared the update on its official X handle on Wednesday, enabling students to access their performance.

A total of 1,950,726 candidates participated in the examination. Of these, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 percent, obtained credits and above in at least five subjects. This benchmark includes satisfactory grades in English Language and Mathematics, which are often prerequisites for further education.

To check their results, candidates are required to first generate a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and a serial number from the WAEC website, waec.org. Subsequently, they can access their results on the dedicated result-checking portal, waecdirect.org. The process typically involves providing the examination number and National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration, along with contact details for One-Time Password (OTP) verification.

The examination, which took place from April 21 to June 19, 2026, saw participation from over 24,200 secondary schools across Nigeria. While the traditional pen-and-paper format was used in most centers, a notable increase in schools opting for the computer-based testing (CBT) option was observed compared to previous years. WAEC had previously indicated that results would be available approximately 45 days after the final paper.
