Breel Embolo becomes teammate of Paulo Díaz at Atlanta United

Atlanta United, a club where Paulo Díaz plays, has strengthened its squad by acquiring Swiss forward Breel Embolo. The 29-year-old attacker joins the Major League Soccer (MLS) team from France's Stade Rennes for an estimated transfer fee of 15 million euros. Embolo has signed a contract with the Georgia-based club that runs until June 2030.

Embolo was presented to the North American club's supporters during halftime of their 2-1 victory over Sporting KC. He appeared in the stands of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, receiving a warm ovation from the fans. The forward has a notable career history, having played for clubs such as Basel, where he was teammates with Marcelo Díaz, Schalke 04, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and AS Monaco, where he played alongside Guillermo Maripán. He also had a stint with Stade Rennes.

Internationally, Embolo has represented Switzerland in multiple tournaments, including the European Championships in 2016, 2020, and 2024. He has also participated in the World Cups held in Brazil (2014), Russia (2018), Qatar (2022), and North America (2026). During the 2026 World Cup, he was involved in a controversial incident where he received a red card in the quarterfinals for simulation while already on a yellow card, in a match Switzerland ultimately lost 3-1 in extra time.

Atlanta United's next match is scheduled against Charlotte FC on August 29 at 7:30 PM (23:30 GMT).
