BRI Highlights 8 Contributions to Indonesia on 81st Independence Day

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is underscoring its significant role in Indonesia's national development, coinciding with the nation's 81st Independence Day celebrations. Under the theme "Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous," BRI reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the national economy, with a particular focus on empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) as a cornerstone of growth.

BRI's President Director, Hery Gunardi, stated that the momentum of independence serves as a reminder and encouragement for the bank to broaden its contributions. He believes that Indonesia's sovereignty and progress are rooted in the people's economy. "In the context of the people's economy, BRI is present not only as a financial institution but also as a proactive partner encouraging the equitable distribution of people's welfare, primarily through UMKM empowerment," Hery explained.

The bank's commitment is manifested through various programs designed to meet societal needs comprehensively. These initiatives range from expanding financing access for businesses to bringing financial services closer to border areas and islands, strengthening village economies, providing housing access, and serving Indonesians working abroad. BRI aims to foster equitable welfare distribution across the archipelago.

Among BRI's eight key contributions to Indonesia, its position as the largest distributor of UMKM credit stands out. As of the second quarter of 2026, BRI's UMKM credit portfolio reached approximately Rp 1.235 trillion, representing 75.2 percent of the bank's total credit portfolio. Furthermore, BRI has disbursed Rp 103.81 trillion in People's Business Credit (KUR) to 2 million debtors, with a significant portion directed towards productive sectors like agriculture and trade.
