Brisbane bus driver who struck and killed pedestrian loses appeal

A Brisbane bus driver has failed in his appeal to overturn his conviction for careless driving that resulted in the death of a young woman. Lindsay Francis Selby was found guilty last year of causing the death of 18-year-old Tia Cameron by careless driving.

The incident occurred in the Brisbane CBD more than two years ago when Selby's bus mounted the curb during peak hour, pinning the teenager against a building. Cameron suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. The 72-year-old driver was subsequently sentenced to an eight-month prison term, which was wholly suspended, and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Selby challenged his conviction in the Brisbane District Court last month. However, on Tuesday, Judge Bernard Porter KC dismissed the appeal. Selby was also ordered to pay $1,800 in legal costs to the Queensland Police Service. Tia Cameron was 18 years old when she died following the collision on March 8, 2024.
