Britain's Glave and Azu secure European 100m one-two

Romell Glave claimed the European 100m title on home soil, clocking 10.09 seconds in a dominant performance. His British compatriot Jeremiah Azu followed closely, securing the silver medal with a time of 10.16, ensuring a strong one-two finish for Great Britain at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Germany's Owen Ansah took the bronze medal with a time of 10.19. The race saw a disappointing end for the defending champion, Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who is also the reigning Olympic champion. Jacobs, who has faced a career marked by injuries, appeared to sustain another one during the race and limped across the finish line in seventh place with a time of 12.26.

Glave's victory marks a significant achievement, building on his progress throughout the season. He had previously broken the 10-second barrier legally for the first time to win his national title in June and has since run sub-10 seconds on multiple occasions. His consistent training and focus on the initial phase of the race have been key to his success.
