British music photographer Mankowitz auctions private collection of iconic photos, records, and books

Renowned British music photographer Gered Mankowitz is parting with a substantial part of his personal archive, putting iconic images of rock and pop legends up for auction. The move comes as the 80-year-old photographer prepares to relocate from Cornwall to a smaller home in Wales.

Mankowitz, known for his work throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, has captured some of music history's most memorable moments. He enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with The Rolling Stones and was among the first British photographers to photograph Jimi Hendrix. His lens also focused on artists such as Kate Bush, Elton John, George Harrison, The Jam, The Eurythmics, Duran Duran, and 10cc, whose album covers frequently featured his work.

The auction, hosted by Gardiner Houlgate in Corsham, UK, on September 7, will feature not only his celebrated photographs but also numerous vinyl records and books. Notable images include portraits of Jimi Hendrix, Kate Bush, The Rolling Stones, and Duran Duran. The auction is anticipated to generate more than 50,000 British pounds (over 58,000 euros).
