His animosity towards the Argentinians stems from their semi-final victory over his home country, England. Following that match, some Argentinian players displayed a banner referencing the Falkland Islands, which deeply angered Morgan.

He continued his public criticism during and after the final. Morgan described the Argentinian team's behavior as "disgusting," specifically calling out player Leandro Paredes.
