Bronx Crash Injures 5 Firefighters, 14 Civilians in MTA Bus Collision

Five firefighters and 14 civilians sustained injuries Tuesday afternoon following a collision between an MTA bus and a New York City Fire Department (FDNY) truck in the Bronx. The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Barretto Street in the Longwood neighborhood.

The articulated bus was carrying over a dozen passengers when the impact occurred. One passenger described the collision as particularly strong for those in the front, causing some people to fall from their seats. Emergency services transported five firefighters and 14 civilians to nearby hospitals for medical attention. Three other civilians were evaluated at the scene but declined transport.

A witness, Jumari Lantigua, stated that the fire truck "ran the light" and "just went straight" into the bus, adding that the fire truck was "going at high speed." Lantigua also claimed not to have heard the emergency vehicle's sirens and observed that its lights were not on. The FDNY truck was carrying several firefighters at the time of the crash.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of the accident or the severity of the injuries sustained by those taken to hospitals.
