Brooklyn Rivera's daughter rejects regime's health claims, demands release

Tininiska Rivera, daughter of indigenous leader Brooklyn Rivera Bryan, has strongly refuted a recent statement from the Nicaraguan regime concerning her father's health. She asserts that the government's claims contain false information regarding his medical condition and the circumstances of his detention.

Rivera stated on May 27, 2026, that her father, a Miskitu leader, was taken from his home in optimal physical condition. This directly contradicts the government's narrative, which suggests pre-existing ailments. The Ministry of the Interior had previously released a statement with photographs showing a severely emaciated Brooklyn Rivera in a hospital bed, claiming he suffered from multiple organ failure and a severe lung infection.

Rivera emphasized that her father was walking and self-sufficient when detained on September 29, 2023. She holds the Sandinista regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo directly responsible for his deteriorating health while in state custody for nearly three years. The regime also claimed that Rivera had received visits from his son, Wailandin Rivera Solórzano, every two weeks, a statement Tininiska denies, stating no family visits have been permitted since his "kidnapping and forced disappearance."

She argues that the government's own photos and statement only serve to highlight the "undignified, inhuman, and degrading conditions" under which her father is held, constituting a flagrant violation of his fundamental rights. Rivera urgently demands her father's immediate and unconditional release, verifiable proof of life, and access for independent family, lawyers, and doctors. She also appealed to the international community and human rights organizations for his urgent transfer to a country where he can receive independent medical care free from state control.
